Billy Cobham – Spectrum

Billy Cobham is one of the greatest jazz fusion drummers of the last decades, who gained high reputation as a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and through his collaboration with Miles Davis, as well as through his inimitable playing style and impressive live performances.

Only a short time after leaving the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he released his legendary debut album Spectrum, which remains one of the most important and influential jazz albums of all time. Himself influenced by the music of the great Miles Davis, Cobham combines elements of jazz with rock and psychedelia, presenting the listener with his true identity in the form of this Spectrum, which ranges from more subtle parts to more aggressive moments.

The included Stratus is the absolute masterpiece of the album, where funky grooves and effective guitar melodies merge very harmoniously and the true soul of jazz, through Cobham's excellent skills on the drums, is brought to life.
