- Halcyon Digest is the band's fourth album from Atlanta and their second for 4AD. The quartet around singer / songwriter Bradford Cox is considered one of the most important and innovative indie bands in the USA. For many critics they are the uncrowned kings of the underground, Halycon Digest is now their coronation mass. For this they have rolled out the red carpet of sound. Shoegazer sounds meet classically enraptured indie guitars that enchant the heart. Halcyon Digest "was recorded at the Chase-Park Transduction Studio in Athens, Georgia. It is a tribute to the new wave bands of the late 70s and 80s that Bradford Cox always admired. The typical DIY aesthetic of that time shimmers through here. The track "He Would Have Laughed" sets a very moving finale.Reviews"The band saves just enough room for two quintessentially Deerhunter tracks: Pundt's gorgeous "Desire Lines" is a standout, taking flight halfway through into a glorious guitar excursion, while the transporting final track, "He Would Have Laughed," is all the more poignant for its dedication to Jay Reatard. It's not as immediate as previous Deerhunter albums, but Halcyon Digest has an appeal all its own: It's as difficult to grasp -- and as hard to shake -- as a memory lingering at the back of your brain."
