London-based keyboardist and composer Greg Foat is back with his new album "The Rituals of Infinity". Greg's first memory of the piano dates back to his aunt's house at the age of 3, where he fell off a piano stool. Since then, his relationship with the piano has developed into a fulfilling and successful career. At the age of 11 he became interested in composing and at the age of 15 he discovered his love of jazz after attending a workshop with Jeff Clyne, Olaf Vas, Trevor Tomkins and Nick Weldon. He went on to study jazz at Middlesex University, followed by a six-month Erasmus stay in Sweden, which led to his first professional studio session at the age of 21. Greg has been a professional musician ever since and has had a wonderful, varied career in the jazz genre. Greg is planning a world premiere of 'The Rituals of Infinity' at the Worthy Earth Festival in Hampshire at the end of September.
The album 'The Rituals of Infinity' is inspired by many things. Some tracks are named after iconic science fiction books, such as The Rituals Of Infinity, A Private Cosmos, The Dark Labyrinth and The World of the Red Sun. Minerva's Owl, on the other hand, is based on the ancient Greek legend. "The owl of Minerva flies only at twilight," wrote G. W. F. Hegel, the great nineteenth-century philosopher of history. By this he meant that every phase of history can only be understood in retrospect - after it has passed. A wonderfully fitting conclusion to the album. The album features the legendary Art Themen on soprano and tenor saxophone, and Trevor Walker on trumpet and flugelhorn harmonizes beautifully with Katherine Farnden on English horn. Natcyet Wakili on drums and Jasper Osbourne on bass guitar have such a fluid approach that really makes the album special. Shawn Lee also dropped by the studio to give the album a spooky atmospheric edge with his classic horror movie waterphone.
