What an incredible record. From the wild cover to the iconic breakbeats, Roots by Ian Carr's Nucleus is one of the most brilliant albums we know. It's truly thick, funky prog-jazz-rock heaven!
Under bandleader Ian Carr, Nucleus existed as a fluid line-up of inventive, experienced musicians. This constant evolution and revolution was part of the ongoing musical exploration and discovery that took jazz to a new level.
Originally released on Vertigo in 1973, Roots has never been repressed, except for a few versions, so it has become another of those impossible-to-find records.
Perhaps it was a little too outlandish for its time, but it has indeed aged very, very well and this reissue of Be With, remastered from the original analog tapes, shows why it deserves to be pressed again.
