Three-time Grammy winner Lucinda Williams has announced the release of "Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road". The new collection, recorded at the Beatles' legendary studio in London, is Volume 7 of her acclaimed Lu's Jukebox series and the first new volume in nearly four years.
Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road contains 12 Beatles songs, including classics such as "Can't Buy Me Love", "With A Little Help From My Friends" and "Something". Williams and her band also tackle popular, more profound tunes like "I'm So Tired", "I've Got A Feeling" and "Yer Blues". Since Williams grew up listening to blues in the southern states, the latter is a song that was clearly meant for her.
Although many great artists have recorded at the hallowed Abbey Road Studios, Williams, as it turns out, is the first major artist to actually record Beatles songs there, aside from the Fab Four themselves.
A celebrated, award-winning singer and songwriter for more than four decades, Williams' music is hugely influential and appreciated by a wide range of artists. Williams is also an exceptional performer who, like all great performers, has the ability to put herself into a song and make it her own. She does just that in this selection of Beatles tunes, as she has done in every volume of Lu's Jukebox.
Lu's Jukebox originally began during the pandemic in 2020 as a way to help independent music when there were no live performances. Planned as a six-part series of in-studio HD video performances with mostly full band lineups, the series featured themed sets of cover songs curated by Williams and streamed for a fee, with proceeds going to specific venues. The first six issues of Lu's Jukebox are:
Vol. 1 - Runnin' Down A Dream (A Tribute To Tom Petty)
Vol. 2 - Southern Soul: From Memphis To Muscle Shoals & More
Vol. 3 - Bob's Back Pages: A Night Of Bob Dylan Songs
Vol. 4 - Funny How Time Slips Away: A Night Of 60's Country Classics
Vol. 5 - Lucinda Williams - Have Yourself A Rockin' Little Christmas
Vol. 6 - It's Only Rock And Roll: A Tribute To The Rolling Stones
Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road is an inspiring example of an artist who, at 71 and after suffering a stroke in 2020, continues to write, perform and find new ways to fuel her creative fire, which continues to burn as brightly as ever.
