"Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts - Talkin' To The Trees" was recorded in November at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La Studios in Malibu. Rubin, who produced Young's last studio album, "World Record," in 2022, is not appearing as producer this time. Neil Young himself is taking on that task – together with his brother-in-law Lou Adler, with whom he produced the album "Before+After" featuring songs from the Coastal tour last year.
Engineer John Hanlon reports that Neil Young plays electric and acoustic guitar, piano, and organ on the album. The "Chrome Hearts" consists of Corey McCormick on bass, Anthony LoGerfo on drums, Micah Nelson on guitar, and Spooner Oldham on Hammond organ. "The album evolves into a unique work – from gentle acoustic sounds to loud, powerful rock pieces comparable to a Jackson Pollock painting," Hanlon concludes.
In an interview with Dan Hesse, Neil Young revealed further details: In addition to "Old Black," his Fender Broadcaster was used in the studio for the first time in years. One of the songs is called "Moving Ahead" and—unsurprisingly for the 79-year-old environmental activist—deals with climate policy. It has been known for some time that the album will also feature a song titled "Silver Eagle" about Neil Young's tour bus. (Rusted-Moon.com)
